STR Blend Sentences for Speech Therapy
26 simple sentences for practicing the STR cluster at the start of a word at carryover level. Every sentence is pronunciation-checked, and at least one word in each carries the whole cluster.
Why practice STR in sentences?
Sentences are where a practiced cluster meets real speech: longer utterances, natural rhythm, and other sounds competing for attention. Some reduction may come back when a child moves up — that is expected, not a failure.
Have the child repeat first, then read (if reading), then answer a question using the sentence. When the cluster holds, move the same targets into conversation.

Frequently asked questions
- What are STR Blend sentences?
- Simple 5–9 word sentences where at least one word has the STR cluster at the start of a word — for example: “We cross the street with mom.”, “The zebra has black and white stripes.”
- Why do some sentences contain other tricky sounds?
- On purpose. At sentence level the goal is carryover into real speech, and real speech contains them. The STR cluster is still verified in every sentence.
- When should a child move from phrases to sentences?
- Typically after consistently accurate phrase-level practice. The SLP guiding the child makes the call — these lists support practice, they do not choose treatment targets.
- Can I get STR Blend practice on a printable worksheet?
- Yes. Ga-loo generates printable articulation worksheets with blends for a chosen age range and theme, and phonetically checks every word before building the PDF.
