Final Blend Words for Speech Therapy

Final blends put two consonants at the end of a word — st as in nest, ts as in cats, nk as in pink. Final S blends (also called final s clusters: st, ts, ps, ks) are the most common targets, and most ts, ps and ks words are plurals, just as SLPs use them. Every list below is checked against the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary, so the cluster is present in the pronunciation, not just the spelling.

Why practice final blends separately?

Final clusters get reduced just like initial ones: a child may say nes for nest or han for hand. Because word endings also carry grammar — plurals, past tense — dropped final clusters can cost more intelligibility than dropped initial ones.

Lists organized by cluster let you drill exactly the ending a student reduces. Start with the cluster selected by the SLP — the lists do not choose a treatment target or replace clinical judgment.
